Andy Goldsworthy studied at the Bradford College of Art from 1974 to 1975 and from 1975 to 1978 at the Preston Polytechnic in Preston, Lancashire, where he also obtained his Bachelor of Arts.
After his studies, Goldsworthy lived in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria. In 1985 he moved to Langholm in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland and a year later to the slightly more northerly Penpont.
It is said that his slow migration to the north was due to a search for a different way of life, which took place outside his control, but that the opportunity always arose and the wish to work in these areas also an economic background. He still lives in Scotland and creates site-bound sculptures and land art objects, embedded in a landscape environment. He makes his art using natural materials available on the spot.
